Craps Pass Line Max Odds
Not as many people put free odds behind come and don’t come bets. Nevertheless, you can place odds behind both of these wagers.
The process works almost exactly the same as with pass line and don’t pass line bets. The only difference is the nature of come and don’t come.
The house edge for the Pass Line bets amounts to 1.31% per bet made and per bet resolved, while it equals to 0.42% per roll. However, when a Pass Line bet is made, players can wager an additional bet that is usually called a “pass line free odds bet”. The fundamental bet in craps is the pass line bet, which is a bet for the shooter to win. This bet must be at least the table minimum and at most the table maximum. If the come-out roll is 7 or 11, the bet wins. If the come-out roll is 2, 3 or 12, the bet loses (known as 'crapping out'). If the roll is any other value, it establishes a point. If a 2, 3, or 12 (craps) is the result of the come-out roll, you will lose your Pass Line bet. Don’t Pass Line: A Don’t Pass Line bet means that you are betting against the shooter. You’ll want the shooter to “crap” out (roll a 2, 3, or 12) on the come-out roll. The 6 and 8 pay out 6:5 or $6 for every $5 wagered. 5 and 9 pay out 3:2. 4 and 10 pay out 2:1 odds. Note that these payouts are only for the odds bet. The original Pass/Come line bet will still be paid 1:1 if it wins. I will explain the bet using the image below. First I made a pass line bet and the shooter rolled a 4 on the come out roll. The 3-4-5x odds are just a tiny amount worse than5x odds (0.374%, compared to 0.326% for a 5x table), but your expected hourly lossis identical. (You have the same 1.41% edge on the $5 Pass Line bet either way,and there’s no edge on the Free Odds bet.).
Odds On Pass Line Bet
Come and don’t come bets have the same rules as pass line and don’t pass line, respectively. The exception, though, is that you must wait for a point number to be established before making eitherof these wagers.
Here’s an example of making a come bet.
- The shooter rolls a 4, thus establishing a point
- You make a come wager
- The shooter’s next roll now becomes the come out roll for your come bet
- The shooter tosses a 6, thus establishing a point
- You take odds on the 6, meaning that your potential payout and true odds are both 6:5
Essentially, come and don’t come are like your own personal pass line and don’t pass line wagers. You can make these bets any time after the shooter’s initial point has been established and backthem with odds.
Many players stick to backing pass line and don’t pass line with free odds because it’s easy to do so at the start of a new shooter’s round.
But the methodology for backing come and don’t come bets with odds is almost the same. You just need to deal with more chaos since you’re doing so in the middle of a shooter’s turn.
When you do back come and don’t come bets with odds, place your chips above the respective space. Also, notify the dealer so that they don’t mistake your free odds for another come or don’t comewager.
The game of craps has a reputation for offering some of the best odds of all casino games. Unless you play perfect Basic Strategy at blackjack or perhaps count cards, you can't beat the Pass Line (or Don't Pass Line) with odds for a friendly bet at the casino.
In fact, when a casino offers 3-4-5 odds on line bets, the overall house edge falls below one-half of one percent! That's a very tiny amount, and one that can keep you happily playing craps for hours at your favorite casino, unless you veer off-track and place bets all over the layout.
The genius of craps is that waiting for a decision on a Pass or Don't Pass bet can take a long time. A good hand at craps might be 15 or 20 rolls, and players get anxious and antsy. Then they make proposition bets that tank their good odds and send their bankrolls screaming into the night!
Some players turn to crazy craps systems to stem the flow of chips away from their pockets thinking that something like the Colonel's Craps system will help, but systems just reroute the wagers. They can be successful and fun, but the house still has the edge. The only way to beat the game of craps for any period of time is to stay will low house-edge bets and catch a lucky shooter or a hot game and press your wagers while good luck is on your side.
